Helical Pile Installation

A fast, load-bearing foundation solution for decks, sheds, fences, and additions — no waiting for concrete to cure.

Helical pile installation available across Ontario.

What Are Helical Piles?

Helical piles — sometimes called helical piers, screw piles, or ground anchors — are galvanized steel foundation posts fitted with helix plates that are screwed directly into the ground. Unlike poured concrete, which needs time to cure before it can bear weight, a helical pile is load-bearing the moment it's installed, letting your project move forward the same day.

Stacked galvanized steel helical piles ready for installation

Fast

No curing time. Piles are load-bearing immediately after installation.

All-Season

Installs in a wider range of ground and weather conditions than poured concrete footings.

Minimal Disturbance

No excavation, forms, or curing mess — a cleaner install for your property.

Reliable in Soft Soil

Unaffected by high water tables or unstable soil that can undermine traditional footings.

How Helical Piles Work

A high-torque drive motor — typically mounted on an excavator or skid steer — screws the pile shaft into the ground until it reaches load-bearing soil. The weight of the structure above transfers down the shaft to the helix plates, which anchor firmly below grade. Because the pile is driven to a measured torque rather than a fixed depth, installers can confirm the foundation has reached adequate bearing capacity before moving on to the next post.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are helical piles?

Helical piles, sometimes called helical piers or screw piles, are steel foundation and anchoring posts with helix plates that are screwed into the ground. Unlike concrete, they are load-bearing immediately after installation, with no curing time required.

How do helical piles work?

A helical pile is driven into the ground using a high-torque drive motor attached to equipment such as an excavator or skid steer. The load from the structure above transfers down the shaft to the helix plates, which anchor into stable soil below grade. Helical piles remain effective even in high water tables or caving soil conditions.

Are helical piles faster than concrete footings?

Yes. Helical piles are load-bearing the moment installation is complete, unlike concrete, which needs time to cure. This allows construction to continue the same day, extending the usable work season into colder months.

What projects are helical piles used for?

Helical piles are commonly used for decks, sheds, fences, additions, cottages, docks, solar panel arrays, and foundation repair or underpinning work.
